Brambles, brambles everywhere……. Yes there certainly are, I’ve managed to keep them at bay from the immediate garden area and around the vegetable patch, but in other areas that we haven’t got to yet, they are flourishing.
Anyway, I thought I would make good use of them. I’ve been picking them now for about a week, which isn’t easy as although they want to be picked they try everything in their power to make it as painful and uncomfortable for you as possible. So far I’ve made 2 huge jars of jam and a large amount of wine. The wine will take anything up to 12 months to be ready so I hope it will be worth it. The jam is fantastic and you can store it for about a year. Have a look at my recipes page if you’d like to make your own. The elderberries will be ready soon so I’m waiting to pounce. The tomatoes are getting ready, I know it sounds a little bit later than most people but I had to start them off in my propogator. My propagator is actually the top of the hot water tank and has several including the best place for a cat to sleep. So as I could only fit one seed tray on it at a time, each lot of seeds had to wait for a space before they were sown. And then there was fitting in sleeping time between the 3 cats as well. The main thing is, is that the tomatoes look very healthy and I think there will be quite a lot of them. That will keep Andy busy making his tomato relish.
